First registered in 2000 this example has covered only 33K miles in the hands of 1 careful owner, who bought it new. After being stored in his garage for several years (he had several cars) it has undergone a large amount or re-commissioning work, ensuring its as near to new condition as when it left the Browns Lane factory back in 2000.

 

With a silky smooth eight-cylinder 3.2 litre petrol engine, very low mileage, a file of paperwork (inc original invoice and MOTs) to back-up the mileage.

 

The extensive re-commissioning work (Invoices present, circa £10k) in the last couple of years has included :

Add all this work to a very low mileage beautiful Jaguar XJ X308 and you have a wonderful car that drives, handles and stops like a brand new Jaguar XJ. Jaguar often used the “Grace Pace and Space” slogan for advertising and it suits this car perfectly. The V8 is smooth and quiet, yet provides wonderful power and with a full suspension replacement this XJ wafts along in astonishing comfort.

 

This particular example was tastefully specified by the first keeper in Seafrost Metallic Paint (code MDV) combined with superb quality leather in Ivory (code NED) making for a striking and beautiful combination.

 

There is the original car books, which includes the Drivers Handbook, Total care handbook, Vehicle care handbook, Jaguar Radio security information, European sales and service book, Audio systems handbook and Jaguar XJ Quick Guide, all in the original Embossed Jaguar wallet.

 

There are 2 keys including a working central locking remote and the rarely available valet key. The interior is as you would expect on a 34k mileage car, beautiful and showing only minor signs of ever being used.

 

The car was manufactured in 2000, and registered in the UK on 29th June 2000 to a gentlemen owner, he purchased this full UK spec car via a Belgium dealer where he went to collect it and drove it back to his home near Reading, Berkshire. The original purchase paperwork shows the additional options of Metallic paint and 17” Celtic alloy wheels.

 

The purchase price was around £32k a great discount from the UK list price of £40k to £50k, a very canny owner. In addition to the purchase invoice there are all the MOT certificates from 2003 to 2021 when the car was taken off the road and stored in one of the owners garages.

 

On receipt of the car in 2024 a vehicle health check was carried out and an MOT, this showed some corrosion and failed on emissions. A fuel system clean and two new O2 sensors cured this and the engine now runs smooth and efficiently. Fresh MOT applied and valid until 12th September 2025.

 

Jaguar launched the new XJ (X308) in July 1997 until December 2003. It was a full sized luxury saloon featuring a brand new AJV8 engine coupled to a ZF 5 speed automatic transmission. It was described in the press as being the most beautiful British saloon ever made. This combination of looks, luxury and power ensured it was used by Prime ministers and royalty alike.

 

The 3.2 litre V8 produced 240bhp and coupled to Jaguars independent suspension made this car a luxury cruiser. At the time Motor Trend described the X308 as "a masterful blend of British luxury and American muscle" a "musclecar in a tuxedo" .

 

Driving impressions are such that at first it doesn't feel as if you're travelling very fast - a deceptive impression as it happens: the 240bhp V8 is deceptively quick, its 3.2-litre engine almost whisper quiet but capable of getting to 60mph in around eight seconds and onto 140 mph where allowed. It's not about sheer speed however, cruising along at any speed is stressless and pure luxury.

 

This Jaguar is a great car to drive. With its very low mileage, full new suspension (£1800 of parts alone) and all the usual X308 corrosion issues sorted out, this may well be the best Jaguar XJ X308 available in the UK.
